- Middlebury Interactive Languages and Middlebury College announced a $2.6 million initiative to boost language education in Vermont. The announcement was made at the opening of MIL’s new headquarters on Exchange Street in Middlebury.
- Longtime faculty member and Middlebury administrator Alison Byerly has been named president of Lafayette College. A hearty congratulations to Alison.
- Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, will deliver a major policy address on nuclear disarmament and nonproliferation at the Monterey Institute of International Studies this week. The address will be live-streamed online at 1:30 p.m. eastern time on Friday.
- In other Monterey news, Ward Wilson, a senior fellow at MIIS’s James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies, wrote a must-read op-ed in Sunday’s New York Times titled “The Myth of Nuclear Necessity.”
- The 15th annual Martin Luther King Celebration Concert—”Let Freedom Ring”—will take place in Mead Chapel on Monday, January 21. This is an event not to be missed.
