Middlebury’s new research vessel, the R/V Folger, was officially dedicated last weekend on a beautiful autumn afternoon along the shores of Lake Champlain.

A familiar face could be seen on CNN last week when Shabana Basij-Rasikh ’11 was interviewed about her efforts to widen education opportunities for young girls in Afghanistan. Shabana, who has described the great effort she made to obtain an education under Taliban-controlled Afghanistan, has opened a school for girls in her home country and launched a foundation to “bring hope for young women through education.”
