Water Stress

Access to water is one of the most important necessities of humanity, and it is by no means guaranteed in many parts of the world due to both natural and human-caused stresses. State and international policy have profound impacts on water access, and while a just distribution of water remains unrealized, it is possible in the future with new cooperation and efficiency measures.

[Image title and author (copyright)]Description: This picture was taken in the Peruvian mountain town of Vaqueria. The painted water droplet represents a local political party whose platform advocates for cleaner water practices. They want increased regulations on the mountain mining companies who are depositing unhealthy levels of debris and pollutants into the water.
