Global History

Globalization is not a new phenomenon; it has always been with us and arguably started when humans first migrated out of Africa and dispersed across the globe.  But global exchange and connections did not simply increase over time.  There were periods when globalization intensified and times when people and countries avoided contact with the outside world such as during the Black Death (bubonic plague) in 14th century Europe.  To write a history of globalization is challenging.
