The frequency of oil spills in transoceanic trade means plastic waste is distressingly common in fresh and salt water around the world. In addition, noxious gases from power generation, although historically reduced, remain significant. The implications of such pollution mean all humans, but especially those from poorer countries, are subjected to increased health risk.
