System and Network Maintenance this Sunday

During our regular maintenance window this Sunday, Oct 5th between 6 and 10 am we have the following activities planned:

  • Middfiles will be offline for up to 2 hours within the 6-10 maintenance window while the storage arrays are moved from the Library data center to our new data center.

o   All files on Middfiles will be unavailable during this window, including home directories, Orgs, Classes, etc…

  • The SAN storage controllers will receive a small point release upgrade. No downtime is associated with this work.

  • We will move a pair of fiber channel switches form the Library data center to our new data center. Hosts served by these switches are dual connected and may see a brief (~5 seconds) unavailability.

  • The border firewalls will receive an upgrade. There are 4 brief Internet outages expected during the upgrade, each lasting up to 30 seconds.

o   All of Middlebury Internet access and the VPN to MIIS will be impacted.

  • One of our two Internet Service Providers will be performing a hardware change. This will result in one of our Internet circuits being down around 7am for up to 30 minutes. We have adequate Internet bandwidth on either single circuit to handle our needs during this time.

o   Point to point VPNs may see a brief drop while the path re-routes.

  • The Filemaker Pro database service will be interrupted for about 10 minutes between 8 and 9 am for application maintenance.

We appreciate your patience as we continuously strive to keep our systems functioning optimally.
