הגעתי למידלברי בלי לדעת מילה בעברית. התרגשתי אבל גם פחדתי מכיוון שלא ידעתי למה לצפות. ברגע שהתחלתי ללמוד לא לקח לי הרבה זמן כדי לראות שמידלברי הוא מקום קסום שבו אפשר ללמוד הרבה על עצמך.
למדתי עברית בבית ספר לעברית ואחר כך התחלתי ללמוד לתואר שני (גם בבית הספר לעברית). למדתי עברית בדרך הטובה ביותר בזכות הפדגוגיה, המורים המצויינים, השיעורים המאתגרים, והמשאבים השימושיים. אחד מהמשאבים, למשל, הוא הספריה שבה אפשר לקרוא ספרים ולצפות בסרטים בעברית (או בכל שפה אחרת הנלמדת במידלברי), ללמוד בחדרים פרטיים כדי לעשות פרוייקטים והנוף המשתקף מהחלון פשוט מדהים. בכל שנה שבה אני נמצאת במידלברי, אני אוהבת ללמוד בספריה כי היא נוחה ללימודים ושקט שם. אפילו כשאני לא נמצאת בקמפוס אני ממשיכה להעזר בחומרים אונליין בשביל המחקרים.
אני לא יכולה לחשוב על דבר אחר שהייתי רוצה לעשות או על מקום אחר שבו הייתי רוצה להיות בקיץ. מידלברי היא קהילה מיוחדת ובית הספר לעברית הוא כמו בית ומשפחה גדולה בשבילי. המקום מלא באנשים שיש להם אהבת לימוד אמיתית וזה המקום היחיד בעולם שאפשר לגור עם אנשים שלומדים אחת עשרה שפות שונות באותו מקום.
פעם הייתי תלמידה שלא ידעה לדבר בעברית, והיום אני מורה לעברית וספרדית שמשתמשת בתהליך הלימוד שעברתי כדי ללמד את התלמידים שלי ולהבין אותם טוב יותר. הלמידה בבית הספר לעברית היא אחת החוויות הכי טובות שעברתי בחיי, ואני מודה למידלברי על כך שהוא מקום כל כך מדהים ללימודים.
I came to Middlebury without knowing a word of Hebrew. I was excited but also scared because I didn’t know what to expect. The moment I started learning, it didn’t take long for me to see that Middlebury is a magical place where you can learn a lot about yourself.
I learned Hebrew at the Middlebury School of Hebrew and then began my Master’s Degree (also at the School of Hebrew). I learned the language in the best way possible
due to the pedagogy, amazing professors, challenging courses, and abundant resources at my disposal. One of these resources, for example, is the library which is filled with books and movies in Hebrew (or in whichever language one chooses to learn), private rooms for projects, and many places to study with incredible views of nature.
Every year that I am in Middlebury, I like to study in the library because it is comfortable, quiet, and there is a wide variety of sources that I can use. Even when I’m not on campus, I continue to use materials online for research. I can’t think of anything else I’d like to do or any other place I’d like to be in the summer. Middlebury is a special community and the School of Hebrew is like a home and a big family. The place is full of people who have a true love of learning and this is the only place in the world where one can live in close proximity with people who study eleven different languages.
Once, I was a student who did not know how to speak Hebrew, and today I am a Hebrew and Spanish teacher who uses the learning process I went through to understand and teach my students. Studying at the School of Hebrew is one of the best experiences of my life, and I am thankful for Middlebury for being such an amazing place to learn.
