Curtis Cushman ’50 founded the lacrosse club in this year. It was a long process to get the program started, there was already a lot of small colleges in New England whom were fielding lacrosse teams so there was interest by the student body, but getting backing from the college was tough. The inaugural meeting had 35 students, many of which were football players looking to try a new sport. The season started with donated equipment because the school wouldn’t supply the team with anything. Cushman coached the team through a five game season, and recorded its first ever win vs. the Union JV squad. The college saw the enthusiasm of the program and decided to back the program. The next season they named a new coach, Harold Parker who took the energy of the first season and started a lasting tradition of Middlebury Lacrosse.
