Communicative goals

• Describe things, qualities :「もの」の特徴や感触、視覚の印象などについて述べられるようになる。
  • 和紙は、やわらかくて、薄いのに、とても丈夫です。
  • 光を通してくれるので、部屋があたたかくてやさしくなります。／光がよく通るので、部屋を暖かくてやさしい雰囲気にしてくれます。
  • 言語ノート：〜てくれる makes the sentence more natural. In Japanese, it’s good to imply that what people/things do for you/us）.
• Explain how to make things:  誰かに折り紙（鶴 crane）の折り方を日本語で教えよう！
  • 角と角を合わせて、三角に折ります。ひっくり返して、同じ形を作ります。etc.
  •  言語ノート：You will learn a great deal of particles and transitive/intransitive verbs.
• Observe a situation (e.g., something is moving, someone making something move, etc.) and comment on what’s going on using transitive, intransitive, causative and passive, etc.)
  • [recommended activity] Google 「からくり人形」(mentioned in 文化ノート) and  find a video.
  • 「人形が動いています。お茶を運んでいますね。中の機械のようなものがこの人形を動かしているんだと思います。あ、人が動かしている場合もあるんですね。人に（よって）人形が動かされています。」
  • 言語ノート：You can practice transitive, intransitive, causative, passive, causative-passives in context.　Do this practice with friends and comment freely using your vocab/grammar repertoires.
