Course Description

How do films, television, and new media convey meaning, generate emotions, and work as art forms? How do media shape our culture, and how do we shape media? What aspects of film are shared by television and videogames, and what elements of each are medium specific? This course is designed to improve your ability to watch, reflect on, and write about moving images. The course will follow questions of style and storytelling across media, from film to television to digital media. with special focus on film style and storytelling techniques. Students will also have the opportunity to explore these ideas through hands-on media production.
