One might suppose that all of the books written by Bely either before 1916 when he returns to Russia were his personal copies. After 1916 books by him, especially those published in Berlin from 1921-1923 could have belonged to him and been given to Asya by him.   There are, however, no dedications of inscriptions, and just one volume of the two volume Petersburg has the stamp of Elsa Mahler.
