Research projects are subject to approval. Students wishing to complete AMST 0701 must submit a project proposal in the first week of the semester. The American Studies faculty will review your proposal and notify you of the outcome early in the second week. If your project is approved, a faculty adviser will be assigned to you. (What to do if your project is not approved.)
To submit a proposal, please download and complete this AMST-SENIOR-WORK-PROPOSAL.docx worksheet. Completed worksheets should be emailed to the American Studies Program Director no later than noon (Eastern Time) on Friday, Sept. 16, 2022.
The worksheet contains the following questions:
- What is the title of your proposed project?
- In one or two sentences, briefly explain your topic.
- Why have you chosen this topic, and what do you hope to learn from studying it?
- If your project focuses on a particular time period, what are the dates?
- If your project focuses on a particular geographical area, what is that area?
- Please list two scholarly works and two primary sources that are relevant to your project. For each source listed, please provide a brief explanation (1-2 sentences) of its relevance.
- What form do you envision your project taking? (Possibilities include, but are not limited to, a formal written document, a video, a web project, a performance, or an installation project.)
- Feel free to list the names of AMST core faculty that you feel would be especially good resources for you on your project.
Students who envision an AMST 0701 project requiring collaboration must submit a joint project proposal.
