Who comes to this session?

* All new FYSMs must come to this session.
* Trained PWTS who are working as FYSMS for this first time.
* Trained FYSMs may come to this session, or session 5, or session 6.

After this session, you will be a better public speaker and you will be able to help your first-year seminar students give better presentations.

Make-up sessions are only for those who have received prior approval. E-mail Izzy Nuttall (enuttall@middlebury.edu) for prior approval.

* All new FYSMS must attend.
* All new PWTS must attend.
* Trained PWTs who did not attend session 2 must attend.
* Trained PWTS who are becoming FYSMS should have attended session 2.  If you did not, contact Izzy for a makeup session.

What is the topic?

* Macro to Micro
* Using a Thesis Statement
* Hands-on practice session with one of your papers

What should I bring?

* One of your papers
* Your folder

Session #2 Getting Started for FYSMs

All new Writing and Academic Mentors must attend.

All trained Peer Writing Tutors now working as Writing and Academic Mentors must attend.

Trained Writing and Academic Mentors must attend either this session or Session 3 on Thursday, September 29th.

  1. Become expert at Time Management!  Bring a syllabus from all four of your classes.
  2. You will practice a 15 minute-version of the 30 min. tutor session
  3. Always bring your training folder to all training sessions.

Make-up sessions are only for those who have received prior approval.

Getting Started–Session 2 for Peer Writing Tutors

All new Peer Writing Tutors must attend this session.

Trained Peer Writing Tutors must attend either this session or Session 3 on Thursday, September 29th.

  • Brainstorming answers to frequently asked tutor questions
  • 15 minute-version of the 30 min. tutor session

Always bring your training folder to all training sessions.


Make-up sessions are only for those who have received prior approval.

Fall 2011 Training Dates for Peer Writing Tutors

Org Session-Thurs. 9/15

Session 2-Wed 9/21

Session 3-Thurs 9/29

Session 4-Thurs. 10/6

Session 5-Thurs 10/13

Session 6-Thurs 10/20

Please bring your folder to every training session. You will be paid for training on completion of all of your mandatory sessions.

New Peer Writing Tutors must attend all of these sessions.

Trained PWTs attend three: Org, Session 1 or 2, and Session 3,4, or 5.

All sessions are scheduled for CTLR (Davis Family Library 225).

New FYSMs attend all seven sessions:

Org Session-Wed. 9/14

Session 2-Wed 9/21

Session 3-Thurs 9/29

Session 4-Wed 10/5

Session 5-Thurs 10/13

Session 6-Thurs 10/20

Session 7-TBA early November

Trained FYSMs: attend Org, 2 or 3,  and 4

PWTs training to be FYSMs:  attend Org and  2 and 4

FYSMs are paid for training sessions when they have completed training for the semester.

 

Training at an Optional Ref-Works session will be paid for separately after that session.
