Биск, Рильке

Биск, А. Избранное из Райнера Марии Рильке. Издание второе, значительно дополненное. (Париж: 1957).

Softcover. The book was once the property of the Bibliothek Altenheim Dornstadt (The library at the Dornstadt home for the elderly) in Southwestern Germany.  The Altenheim Dornstadt was opened in 1951 to accommodate elderly displaced persons. Some of the books for the libraries followed the elderly from internment camps, others came from the Tolstoi Foundation in Munich (cf. p.7). The story of the Altenheim is recounted in Altenzentrum Altenheim und Altenpflegeheim mit Altenpflegeschule in Dornstadt (Evangelische Heimstiftung e.V. Stuttgart, nd.) Most likely under the call number 2387 (this number, handwritten in ink and red pencil appears thrice: on the cover (pen), the title page (pencil), and above the dedication (pen). The first (half-title) page is missing. The book contains a dedication by the author in French and the foreword in Russian. On page 20 the Russian translation of one verse from Paul Verlaine’s poem “Les sanglots longs” is crossed out. Moreover, there are two handwritten corrections to the text on page 20, one in pencil and the other one in black ink. The former one suggests changing the word слова (word) снова (again), thus changing the meaning of the sentence from “[…]Rilke […] literally resurrected” into “[…]Rilke […] resurrected again”. The latter one changes the date from 26th of December into 29th of December. The handwriting in cursive below the page number indicates that this particular correction was made by G. Grau.
