Participants in the 2025 Scholarship in Sound and Image Workshop will be expected to pay tuition of $3,200 to Middlebury College. This cost includes the following:
- two-weeks of instruction in Middlebury’s dedicated multimedia production labs with leading figures in film & media studies Jason Mittell and Catherine Grant, and hands-on technological training and support
- lodging (13 nights) in a single-occupancy dorm room in one of Middlebury’s residence halls; restrooms will be shared among 4-5 participants, with shared laundry access
- dining of three-meals-a-day in Middlebury’s dining hall, featuring local foods and flexible accommodations for dietary needs
- full access to campus resources while in residence, including comprehensive athletic facilities, library, and IT services
Participants will be responsible for their own travel to Vermont; the workshop will arrange ground transport from Burlington Airport or regional train stations. For participants who choose to drive, parking will be provided.
We encourage participants to apply for support from their home institutions, and are happy to provide whatever documentation is necessary to facilitate such support. We do have very limited financial aid available to applicants who could not otherwise attend the workshop. On the application, please select the option for required financial aid and we will admit a small number of participants at a reduced tuition rate of $1,750. Note that if you select this option, the odds of being selected will be reduced as we only can support a few participants at this rate, so only choose it if you would truly be unable to attend otherwise.
Upon acceptance, participants will need to pay a $500 non-refundable deposit to secure their place in the workshop within two weeks. The remainder of the tuition will be due by May 15. We will provide invoices and other documentation as needed for participants to receive reimbursement from their home institutions.
