Greetings! はじめまして!My name is Sarah Resnick and I am a facilitator for students to gain international education experiences. I am currently enrolled at the Monterey Institute of International studies in their International Education Management program.

I am presently working for the Japan Center for Michigan Universities, a consortium of 13 Michigan higher education institutions.   I have been gaining the skills necessary to become a successful international education coordinator and adviser through studying and working abroad, my degree, and working at the Japan Center.  Feel free to peruse my CV and the informational tabs at the top of the page.

OBJECTIVE
My objective is to work with the goals and mission of an institution to promote intercultural learning through successful experiences for students by being a key contributor in the development and implementation of study abroad programs.

Program Assistant

Michigan State University: Japan Center for Michigan Universities ● East Lansing ●August 2014-Present

Responsibilities

  • Created a marketing and promotion plan including a concise branding guide to recruit students.
  • Assisted with liaising between the 15 consortium partners as well as the U.S. and Japan offices.
  • Recruited students at study abroad fairs and responded to online, phone and walk-in inquiries.
  • Assisted with the student application processes for multiple programs.
  • Presented at pre-departure orientations about how to incorporate study abroad into career building.
  • Designed comprehensive student and parent handbooks in both print and digital formats.
  • Assessed and redesigned the website for more intuitive navigation, quality, and consistent brand identity.
  • Advised students on scholarship and fellowship opportunities such as the Gilman, Boren Award and Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowships.

Program Assistant

Responsibilities

  • Constructed and implemented international workshops career and reverse culture shock.
  • Rebuilt the main program blog page while adding ten new student resource webpages.
  • Advised and counseled students individually during their study abroad and/or internship experience in Japan.
  • Formed a partnership with a local tourism group to increase student access to cultural locations.
  • Coordinated events with the Shiga Prefectural Government, Department of Tourism.
  • Took professional level photographs for marketing and promotional materials.

Language Instructor

Japan Exchange and Teaching Program (JET) ● August 2011-July 2013
Akita City Board of Education

Responsibilities

Co-taught English classes at two public junior high schools and five public elementary schools as member of Japans largest cultural exchange programs (run jointly by the Ministries of Education and Foreign Affairs). Work included making of documents using Microsoft Office and making class materials in an office setting.

  •  Independently created innovative lesson plans for team-teaching.
  •  Provided intercultural exchange and interaction with a native speaker in English classes.
  •  Organized pen pal correspondence between students in Japan and the U.S.
  • Coached speech contest participants for City, Prefectural, and National levels.

 

Camp Counselor

Girls Scouts Heart of Michigan ● Brooklyn/Lansing Michigan ● June – August 2011

Responsibilities

Lead large groups of girls ages 7-17, working in cooperation with other counselors in camp. Taught camp activities and coordinated maintenance of camp facilities.  Attended to all minor medical needs of children and co-workers. Taught camp skills for girls to earn badges such as posting and retiring the flag, campfires, tying knots, making crafts, nature identification, boating techniques, and teamwork.

 

International Student Orientation Representative and Driver

Berea College International Center ● Berea Colelge●  August 2009 and August 2010

Responsibilities

While attending college, represented the Berea College International Center to greet and transport new international students. Also, assisted in international orientation procedures by answering questions about class scheduling, campus life, buying necessities, and community involvement opportunities.

 

VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCE

Stage Manager

Responsibilities

  • Kept all event speeches on schedule and flowing smoothly for the live stream.
  • Kept positive and energetic to encourage the speakers prior to their presentations.
  • Equipped guest speakers with hands free headsets.
  • Ensured all microphones stayed in proper position for maximum sound quality

 Asian Student Union President, Berea College

Save Japan Banquet April 2011
Organized and implemented a large banquet with the purpose of raising money for Japan after the March 11th 2011 earthquake. Collaborated on and distributed advertising. A guest speaker from came from University of Kentucky presented his experience while in Tokyo and the impact on Japan. A total of four departments co-collaborated.

 

INTERNSHIP

Theater Lighting Technician Intern

Actors Theater of Louisville ● Louisville, KY ●  December 2009-March 2010
Responsibilities and Job Duties
While attending college worked full-time as a Theatre technician including during the 34th annual Humana Festival and all shows during the season. Assisted in rigging, hanging, striking, cabling, focusing, gelling and repairing of all lighting related equipment. Work often required safety harnesses and using ladders. Spot light operations. Changed color and installed lights as needed in the short time between shows during the Humana Festival.
