Jeff Bezos and his extramarital girlfriend Lauren Sanchez

I read an article in the WSJ about Bezo’s affair with Lauren Sanchez. Her brother Michael Sanchez recently filed a lawsuit saying the publisher of the National Enquirer defamed him for claiming he was the one who tipped them off. Mr. Sanchez says he wasn’t the one who leaked nude photos – which is disgusting thinking a brother would do that to his sister. Michael Sanchez says that his involvement was advising the couple on keeping the secret.

Lauren Sanchez reflected on her story of coming from nothing but ended up marrying an NFL player and another big name before being with Bezos. To some extent there is a story behind a woman using her looks and sex appeal to move up the ladder in society.

Lavender Scare

I came across two pictures related to the lavender scare in the post war era. I was always aware about the Red Scare and McCarthyism, but the Lavender Scare was new to me. In some ways, I think it reflects the stigma about showing homosexuality in schools.

This image is particularly interesting because of the language used. Soviets are described as “Reds” and the word homosexuals has an “us verses them” connotation. It further shows the threat Americans felt from the LGBT community in the postwar era.
I found this image somewhat amusing because of the phallic symbolism of the Washington Monument. This image was from a general history website about the red scare. Unlike the first image, there’s no words associated. There’s just two men with the Washington Monument between them.
