SKIGA, Nordic Ski Club Activities

Dear Students,

Now that Winter is in full swing, it is time to start thinking about our Nordic Ski Club, SKIGA.  There are a few items which you should all be aware of:

(1.) Join SKIGA!
Even if you have been a SKIGA member in the past, sign up for SKIGA
this year.  Click on this link:
SKIGA 2012
Fill in all of the necessary information to join.

In order to qualify for SKIGA Rental Benefits, you must sign up by
FRIDAY, 1/13 at 5PM. You may still sign up for SKIGA after this
date, but you will not qualify for rental benefits.

(2.) SKIGA benefits.
Rentals at Rikert Ski Touring Center: SKIGA members who sign up before the above
date will be eligible for  two free rentals at the Rikert Ski Touring Center.  Your name will
appear on a list that can be found at Rikert.
Dear everyone, please note two things: 1. These rentals won’t take effect until at least Saturday 1/14  and 2. There is a finite (but not insignificant) amount of money in our free-rental budget, so it could potentially be exhausted before you get your two rentals in. We’ll keep you posted on both of these things.

Wax box.  The club has a well-stocked wax box as well as use of the Campus Bike Shop for waxing.
Use of the wax box is for members only.

(3.) Group Skiing
We are interested in getting groups of people together to head up to Rikert several afternoons per week.
No matter your skiing ability, we would love you to come out for an afternoon.

(4.) SKIGA Race Crew
We are exploring the possibility of joining the USCSA, an intercollegiate organization that offers semi-competitive college racing.
In addition we have a number of racing events planned for this winter season including the Craftsbury Marathon. If you would like to join SKIGA in attending some races, from
Wednesday night race series at Sleepy Hollow to the New England
Eastern Cup Series, please check the proper column in the spreadsheet
above.

If you would like to get involved in SKIGA, or have any questions or ideas, Please come to our informational meeting:
on THURSDAY 1/12 @ 7:00 PM in BI-Hall 216.

Hope to see you on the trails,

Paul Quackenbush and Eric Hemphill
SKIGA President and Treasurer

New Yoga Club On Campus

Dear Campus,

We wanted to let you all know that a new club has recently been created — Yoga Club!

For those of you who have been practicing for years, or for those of you who have always wanted to give it a try, or just want to stop in on a particularly stressful week, there are two new FREE classes coming up in J-term. Beginners are very welcome at both classes.

~Russell Comstock will be offering classes from 5:00-6:15 PM every J-term Tuesday in CFA 109

Russell Comstock, Co-Director of Metta Earth Institute and founding member of the Green Yoga Association, will be offering all-levels classes that explore philosophy and posture through a fluid vinyasa (flowing sequence) approach to yoga.   Russell‘s classes emphasize yoga as a holistic system of wellness and awareness that is applicable both on and off the mat. The class is structured while ample encouragement is given for students to find the level of practice that is uniquely suited to  their bodies.

On January 18, Russell Comstock will also be giving a talk entitled “Yoga Philosophy” from 2:00-4:00 PM in CFA 109.  All students are invited to attend.

~Nikhil Ramburn will be offering classes from 11:00 AM-12:30 PM every J-term Sunday (January 15, 22, 29) in CFA 109.

Nikhil‘s classes invite yoga poses that feel authentic and link movement to breath to discover new horizons of being. Nikhil‘s approach to Yoga is not about finding the perfect “picture Yoga pose” but rather invites exploration of one’s own body- mind complex. His classes will use yoga postures as a laboratory to examine ancient yogic truths and modern experiential anatomy.

~Here is our summary of all FREE YOGA opportunities available on campus this week:
  • Monday (1/9): The Dance Department is sponsoring classes taught by Andrea Olsen from 1:30 to 2:30 PM in CFA 110.
  • Tuesday (1/10): The Yoga Club is sponsoring classes with Russell Comstock from 5:00-6:15 PM in CFA 109.
  • Friday (1/13): The Dance Department is sponsoring classes taught by Jeremy Cline from 11:00 AM-12:30 PM in CFA 109.
  • Sunday (1/15): The Yoga Club is sponsoring classes with Nikhil Ramburn from 11:00 AM-12:30 PM in CFA 109.

Yoga-related speakers, field trips, screenings and tea are down the road!

And if you’re interested in receiving further updates or joining Yoga Club, register on Middlink through  go/yoga (http://middlebury.collegiatelink.net/organization/yoga)!

We hope all this yoga gets your J term off to a good start!  Please let us know if you have any questions!

Sincerely,

Yoga Club
