Middlebury in the News – A Quick Download:

Here’s a new student story and video just posted on Midd’s site about Cameron Mercer ’11, who had an interesting internship at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala. working on the Mars Exploration Rovers program. His NASA mentor had high praise for him, and has invited (and funded) him to present his research at a major industry conference in Houston this spring.

Also, Middlebury College is well represented at the Copenhagen climate talks. Here’s an update describing a few of the efforts of Middlebury-related people.

Young Alumni in the World

Corinne Almquist ’09 appears in Christian Science Monitor; she is a Compton Fellow this year, and is promoting the practice of distributing produce that would otherwise go to waste to those in need.  Article here: http://www.csmonitor.com/2009/1102/p07s01-lign.htm

Conor Shapiro ’03 is the director of St. Boniface Hospital in Haiti.  He was inspired by one of his former professors to travel there and has been there ever since.  The video clip is a short documentary by two teenagers who travel to Haiti to document the work of the St. Boniface Foundation.  Clip here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tw_6sHxzmLM

A Category in Which it’s Good We’re Not #1

Good news:  while we do have one of the highest tuitions in the country, that does NOT make us the most expensive college to attend, when you lump in room and board.  We’re all the way down at #17, so spread the word, and breathe easy.
