A track used for public transportation generally supports more than one service line. For the line itself, people traveling on it are more interested in the line’s function than location. They want to know where each service line (on the track) goes and how these different lines interact.
Show service lines as neatly arranged bundles of wire in conduits. Each route feature (rail or road) is the conduit. Each service line is a separate wire. Bundle the wires so that their contiguity reflects their shared geography. Show where lines cross versus where they connect.
