How to use library databases from off campus

Going away this summer? Take the library with you! Take the library with you

You can search library databases from off campus. Just start at the library site: go.middlebury.edu/lib.  From there, JSTOR, ebooks, audiobooks, Summon and all of our online journals, magazines and newspapers are available to you…no matter where you are!

When you’re off campus, links that are on library web pages (a few examples of library web pages include Research GuidesSummon and the Journals list) will ask you to log in with Midd credentials. It’s as easy as that!

Seniors: Here’s how to get alumni access to library databases!

Enjoy the summer!

Borrow a bike from the library

Borrow a bike from the library circulation deskWe know there’s still snow on the ground, but we’ve seen a sure sign of spring! Yes, the loaner bikes are back at the Davis Family Library. You can find the purple beauties locked to the bike rack at the front entrance.

Check out a key at the circulation desk. You’ll need a sticker for your ID. Fill  this out to get it: Loaner Bike Form.

No more free Washington Post

For anyone who remembers that we ever had free Washington Post access, I’m writing to let you know that we no longer do. A bunch of years ago, it was possible to register with a .edu address to get 25 free articles per month. Arabella found this page which indicates that the opportunity is still available for .gov and .mil, but not .edu  (https://helpcenter.washingtonpost.com/hc/en-us/articles/115007248227-Start-a-free-subscription-with-a-valid-gov-or-mil-email-address).

The lib/its blog post that publicized this access has been deleted.

Update your bookmarks and syllabi with the new MIDCAT URL

biblio.middlebury.edu is crossed out

MIDCAT, our library catalog, has a new URL! All links on the library website have been updated, but your links probably need some attention. If you bookmarked MIDCAT, or if you included links to MIDCAT in your syllabus or course web page, you’ll need to revise the URL.

The new URL is:
http://mbury.iii.com/

Fortunately, revisions will be pretty straightforward: Wherever you have the old URL, just replace it with the new one (see below). This includes links to books and to searches (both of which have some characters after the “biblio.middlebury.edu”).

For example:

  • Old: http://biblio.middlebury.edu/record=b4194118
  • New: http://mbury.iii.com/record=b4194118

Thing to know: The old URL seems to work now, but it won’t last forever.
