Connor Wertz (he/him) graduated from Middlebury in the spring of 2022 with a major in Environmental Justice. Born and raised in the Unitarian Universalist tradition, he was taught from a young age the value of engaging in a variety of faith traditions and modes of worship. This early education also familiarized him with communities that weave together spirituality and social justice; this inspired his undergrad thesis, which examined spiritual and religious impulses within the Sunrise Movement (a youth environmental justice organization) and the connections between community building, spirituality, and social justice. Connor is especially interested in (social) movement building, and has been known to geek out on things like organizational structure and popular education. At the time he interviewed Rebecca Vilkomerson, in the fall of 2022, he was working for 350VT, an environmental justice nonprofit in Vermont, and when not on email (which is, he is learning, a very large part of community organizing) loves running, reading, and his cat.
