Elizabeth Stark and Brian Campbell, authors of the blog Brooklyn Supper (http://www.brooklynsupper.net/), will discuss their work bringing local, seasonal ingredients and wholesome recipes to tables across the US. They will discuss their approach to food writing and photography, and how they’ve been able to share local, seasonal eating with an increasingly broad audience. They will also discuss what led them to food blogging and how their work as bloggers fits into the wider food movement.

This local, vegetarian dinner will celebrate our month-long series of speakers and events revolving around food culture and sustainability in the U.S. Open to the first 150 students to arrive.

Inspired by curiosity about our country’s habit of sending food straight to landfills, this multi-award winning documentary follows filmmaker Jeremy Seifert and friends as they dumpster dive in the back alleys and gated garbage receptacles of Los Angeles supermarkets. In the process, they salvage thousands of dollars worth of good, edible food–resulting in an inspiring documentary that is equal parts entertainment, guerilla journalism, and call to action. Feeding America: A Panel Discussion about Sustainable Food in a Growing Nation

Local cider entrepreneur David Dolginow, farmer Sophie Esser-Calvi, grocer Jay Leshinsky, and chef Woody Danforth share their perspectives about American food culture and how to envision a sustainable food future, both in Vermont and across the US.

 Gary Hirshberg is the Co-Founder and Chairman of Stonyfield Farm, the world’s largest organic yogurt company. He oversaw Stonyfield’s growth from a 7-cow organic farming school to a $350MM company supporting over 1,400 organic family farms, and now sits on 9 food company boards and several advisory boards focused on food and farming. Based on his 36 years of activism in the organic and sustainable food movement, Gary will share his perspective on what it means to create truly sustainable food systems in which all human and environmental stakeholders win.

This Land is Your Land: Unlocking the Secret of Our Urban Commons

Paula Z. Segal, attorney and founding director of 596 Acres, Inc., New York City’s community land access advocate, will describe how the organization stirs community education for public land use and helps communities harness collective power to become their own most powerful advocates.
