The “Manchurian” of The Manchurian Candidate is rich in its significations. Even if, as some have argues, the film signals the breakup of the Cold War consensus rather than expressing the consensus itself, still it elaborates its thesis in large part through both long-standing and shorter-term mythologies of “the Orient.”
