On July 1, 1946, the United States conducted a nuclear weapon test at Bikini Atoll.  The bomb was emblazoned with the likeness of Rita Hayworth, a Hollywood sex symbol who was starring in the popular film, Gilda.  (See the images below.)  How might Elaine Tyler May explain the use of Hayworth’s image in this event?
