In a 1984 New York Times article about the role television played in the careers of numerous politicians, many examples include Eisenhower’s use of cartoons during his 1952 campaign, Nixon’s performance at the presidential debate, and Reagan for his then-second term. This article was largely influenced by a TV show that was running at the time, called “Television and the Presidency” which was “produced, incidentally, by a media consultant, Roger Ailes.”
Roger AIles was the founder of the Fox News Group, and what many consider to be the “godfather behind the scenes” of the modern conservative movement. He is also credited as the creator of conservative media as a formative information source. The Guardian wrote that “Ailes’ greatest legacy…[is] Donald Trump”
Besides conservative media, how has modern political discourse been informed by the McCarthy hearings and its use of television?
