In this post we’ll introduce you to two new members of the Middlebury College staff who are working in the Center for Campus Activities and Leadership and Library and Information Services. Please join us as we welcome Sophie and Jamie to campus!
Sophie Esser Calvi is thrilled to be managing the College’s Organic Farm, returning eight years after she completed an internship there herself. After graduation she ventured out into the wider world of food and wine, where she has worked for wineries and various garden, farm and food organizations. Sophie holds a Master’s Degree in Food Culture and Communications from the University of Gastronomic Sciences in Italy and a BA in International Studies from Middlebury College. She works closely with students, faculty, staff, as well as the broader food community, on numerous food initiatives. Sophie is married to Benjamin Calvi ’03 who is a winemaker. They live on Lake Bomoseen with their son Arthur who keeps them busy and very very happy!
Jamie Carroll has returned to the staff of Middlebury after a 5.5 year hiatus, joining the LIS Helpdesk in the Davis Library as Senior Tech Specialist. Previously he worked at the CET/NITLE office in the Old Courthouse and Marble Works. During his time away, Jamie worked at the 4×4 Center as the Driving School and Technology Manager. He lives in Hinesburg with wife Michelle and two Labrador Retrievers, Harper and Ritter. He volunteers with Essex Rescue as an EMT. Jamie ,Michelle, and the dogs work with Therapy Dogs of Vermont, visiting FAHC and local schools . They enjoy skiing year round, and when they are not skiing they also mountain bike and sail on Lake Champlain. Jamie is interested in finding people to carpool with from Hinesburg.
