The Middlebury Institute and Monterey communities have been hard at work bringing a mural project to fruition on the McCone Building. The mural was painted by local artist Yermo Aranda with volunteers from the Middlebury Institute and surrounding community. The mural project was partially funded by donations from the Old Monterey Bay Foundation. The mural celebrates the rich history of Monterey, global languages, and three long-time Middlebury Institute faculty: Jan Knippers Black, Edgar Coly, and Tsuneo Akaha. Learn more about the mural project and RSVP to attend the November 8 mural commemoration and international celebration.
While the mural is completed, the Institute for Art in Public Places is still seeking volunteers to help “Paint Pierce Street”. The painting takes on Fridays and Saturdays most weekends in October and November. The design was developed by MIIS alumna, Kaitlin Emmons. The colors reflect the Middlebury Institute colors (including Middlebury Blue) and a cubist-inspired design.
Street art volunteer shifts are just two hours. Sign-up to help ICAPP paint Pierce Street. Community members and local students welcome!
