Every summer we welcome new and returning employees to the Middlebury campus as well as campuses in Oakland, California; Santa Fe, New Mexico; Asheville, North Carolina; Oxford, United Kingdom; and Ripton, VT. Does anyone care to take a guess at how many employees this group includes?
First – who are we talking about? Starting in June the HR office begins processing employment paperwork for several groups of summer employees. These groups include the Summer Language School faculty and staff, the Bread Loaf School of English faculty and staff members, athletics camp coaches and support staff (camp programs include: soccer, lacrosse, football, ice hockey, and field hockey ), as well as the Bread Loaf Writer’s Conference employees.
As of August 9, employment paperwork and electronic records were created/updated for 637 employees during the summer months. (This total does not include figures for the Bread Loaf Writer’s Conference which is still to come.) To put this number in perspective, this is roughly equal to a little more than half of the number of benefits-eligible employees that are employed at Middlebury at any one point in time.
