The Director of the International Studies program invites faculty to submit a proposal to team-teach an International Studies seminar during the 2011-12 academic year.
These seminars are thematic and team-taught, and are normally interdisciplinary and/or cross-regional. A strong preference is for seminars taught by faculty from two different departments who have a focus on at least two areas of the world. Under some circumstances, seminars can be taught by two faculty from the same department, as long as the focus is on at least two areas of the world. Faculty from two different departments who focus on one area of world may also offer a seminar. I also welcome repeats of previously-taught IS seminars; if you are willing and able to offer a seminar you have offered in the past during the 2011-12 academic year, please let me know.
If you have an interest in offering a seminar, I encourage you to get in touch with your department chair and me as soon as possible. Experience has shown that it is best to start the process early, as departments are, or soon will be, making plans for next year’s course schedule. If you have any questions about potential topics for seminars, or would like assistance in identifying a team-teaching partner, please feel free to contact me as well.
Finally, in fairly short order, information about course development funds that may be used to develop new IS seminars (made possible by our Integrating Study Abroad grant from the Mellon Foundation) will be forthcoming. Stay tuned.
Best regards,
Jeff
