In her essay, “The Flag of Class,” Woden Teachout discusses the contested meaning of the American flag in the late ’60s and early ’70s.  How is the flag used in contemporary U.S. political rallies and demonstrations?  Do you think that the flag is a similarly contested symbol of class identity today?
