The Complete University Guide provides institutional profiles, as well as Tables and Rankings that sort and assess institutions overall and by subject, using nine quality factors: http://www.thecompleteuniversityguide.co.uk/
The 2008 RAE (Research Assessment Exercise) provides quality ratings for research across all disciplines at UK institutions. Panels use a standard scale to devise Tables of Excellence to rank institutions overall and by subject quality.
