Faces of the Program

Sylvia Ryan ’00 (Stellarton, Nova Scotia) arrived at Middlebury after graduating from Stellarton High School. Ryan wore number 2 during her time at Middlebury. Ryan finished her career as the all-time leading goal scorer at Middlebury. She also is fourth in assists with 92 and third in points with 206. Ryan was named a First Team All-American both her junior (1998-1999 season) and senior (1999-2000) seasons. In her final year as a Panther, Ryan was named ECAC and National Player of the Year.

Michelle Labbe ’01 (Point Claire, Quebec) came to Middlebury after graduating from Deerfield Academy. Labbe wore number 16 during her career on the women’s ice hockey team and became one of the best players ever to play for the program. Labbe finished her career as the all-time leading point scorer with 240. She is second on the all-time leading goal scorers list with 108 and first in assists with 132 throughout her four years. Not only did Labbe have a significant impact on the Middlebury women’s ice hockey program but she was also recognized nationally for her outstanding level of play. Labbe was named a First Team All-American during the 1998-1999, 1999-2000, and 2000-2001 seasons. As a senior, she was named AWCHA National Player of the Year.

Emily Quizon ’06 (Chino Hills, California) graduated from Culver Academy before coming to Middlebury. Quizon finished with 107 assists, which placed her third on the all-time leaders list, and fifth in points with 171. In her sophomore (’03-’04) season, Quizon was named a second team All-American. In her junior and senior seasons, Quizon was named a first team All-American. In her final season as a Panther, Quizon lead the team to a third straight NCAA championship and was also awarded National Player of the Year.

Ryan, Labbe and Quizon’s numbers, 2, 16, and 12, respectively, were all retired after their outstanding careers with the Middlebury women’s ice hockey team.
