Area 51 notes, Oct. 7, 2010

AD notes for October 7, 2010

Present:  Mike Roy, Terry Simpkins, Shel Sax, Carol Peddie, Mike Lynch, Chris Norris and Doreen Bernier.  Space Committee:  Peggy Fischel, Kellam Ayres, Hans Raum and Joseph Watson

The Space Team presented their recommendations for possible changes to library service points.  They also presented the survey results.  AD’s will need to decide what to do with these results and how to share them with others.  Several possibilities were presented for discussion.  It was decided to revisit this topic after the music library moves into Davis and other possible personnel office moves have occurred.

Notification of the shutdown of Segue1 needs to be publicized broadly prior to shutdown.  Files for the Teacher’s Ed program need to be stored for 5 years.  The most recent portfolios should end around 2012.  The possibility of storing all Segue files on a dedicated stand-alone computer seems like a good solution.

NITLE has been promoting high-definition video-conferencing at a cost of $1,800 per unit.  Could this be useful between Midd/MIIS?    We need to evaluate bandwidth limits and estimate costs associated with this.

Terry will facilitate the Oct. Managers’ meeting in Mike’s absence.  The meeting will focus on a discussion of area/workgroup/team goals.

Mike R. will present a list of questions excerpted from the annual report and elsewhere for a presentation during Thanksgiving in October, Staff Appreciation Day.  Lunch will be ordered.

The LIS focus document was discussed briefly, and a few modifications to it were suggested.
