Alice Green

Dr. Alice Green has spent her life working to change the systems that exclude and disadvantage people of color in New York State. Motivated by her childhood in a small town in the Adirondacks where she experienced prejudice and racial discrimination, [ref] Green, “An African in the Adirondacks.” [/ref] she founded the Center for Law and Justice in Albany to address issues of social inequity, particularly the racial injustices in the corrections system which has expanded in the North Country since the 1980s. [ref] Center for Law and Justice, “About Us.” [/ref] Her own story highlights the contrasts of isolation and freedom that many people experience in the Adirondacks, and her professional career has brought important attention to issues of racial injustice in her home region and beyond.
