The YMCA is a U.S. country-wide non-profit organization. The Monterey YMCA serves the Monterey County community and aims to help members gain skills they need to live healthy and fulfilling lives. Although most programs are targeted towards meeting athletic and social youth needs, they also provide adult services specific to each communities needs.

It was our intent to provide the Monterey YMCA with a curriculum, which meets the needs of their English Language Learners.  We developed three Unit templates and sample lesson plans utilizing a communicative approach.  We believe this approach best engages learners and will help them in their journey towards second language acquisition (S.L.A.).  Most importantly, we wanted to stay true to the Monterey YMCA vision of helping their community members lead healthy and fulfilling lives using language and real-world skills.
