President Sunder Ramaswamy is the featured speaker at the GSIPM Global Problems and Solutions Colloquium, Thursday, May 3, from 6-8 pm in McGowan 102. His lecture is entitled “Elephants Can Dance: an Assessment of India’s Economic Performance and Potential.”
With one billion people, the struggle of one-sixth of humanity for dignity and prosperity is a drama of the highest order. President Ramaswamy will assess some fundamental changes taking place in the Indian economic landscape, with special attention to who is benefiting from these changes. The talk will place the economic reforms of the 1990s in the context of India’s economic history since independence with specific attention on reforms. The discussion will explore how India has performed under the new economic regime addressing the question, “What needs to be done?”
