Spring Workshop Series
Sessions are designed to showcase examples from our broader community, promote discussion of best practices and possibilities, and offer time for hands-on exploring on participant computers or DMC iMacs. Options for working with different operating systems are also a part of the conversation.  No sign-up or previous experience is required to participate.

Weekly workshops are organized around a couple of themes:

Digital Media in the World of 2.0
Facilitated sessions on movie making, podcasting, blogging, image editing, document layout design and more!

Emerging Trends
Exploring a variety of topics including: mobile learning technology applications, data visualization, concept mapping, and micro-blogging with Twitter and Tumblr.

Another way to join the learning community is by taking contacting the DMC with an interest, idea, question, or project that you want to develop.

DMC On Demand

In addition to the published workshop schedule is the opportunity to request a workshop learning session ‘on demand.’ Email “collaborate AT miis DOT edu” to schedule a personalized or small group session.  We strive to work with you and your team.

Examples of ‘On Demand’ sessions have included: introduction to video editing with iMovie, Photostory basics (Windows PC), intro to collaboration tools, podcasting with Audacity or Garageband, organizing your digital files, designing effective presentations with Powerpoint, Keynote, or Prezi…

Planning Ahead for Moodle – Spring 2010

It’s time to start planning for Spring 2010 course hosting on Moodle. Please follow the simple directions below. Requests should not be emailed directly to the Help Desk. Use the online request form described below:

1. Start early. Don’t wait until the last minute to request a Moodle space or a Course Rollover.

2. Know your course title and number. Courses use the following naming convention:

• PROGRAM / COURSE# / SEMESTER & YEAR / Course Name
• For example: IPOL 8555 SP10 Environmental Law
• Look course info up online to help expedite the process: http://go.miis.edu/courses

3. Directions to request a brand new course http://go.miis.edu/moodlerequest

4. Directions to request a rollover course (copy from a previous semester): http://go.miis.edu/rollover

• You must specifically request the course you want rolled over in the ‘Reasons’ field. Reasons like, “I taught this last year and will teach it again this year” does not translate as a rollover, and will be treated as a new course request.

5. Requests will be fulfilled as quickly as possible and in the order that they are received.

The Help Desk is here for any questions you may have.  Ext. 6656

How Can TLC Serve You Better?

Don’t forget to fill out the TLC survey to help us plan our January programming.  Busy during January? Skip the beginning of the survey, but please at least provide your input on the last question.  This is your opportunity to tell us, more broadly, what your needs are.

The Teaching and Learning Collaborative (TLC) facilitates the engagement of faculty, staff, and students in the pursuit of academic excellence. The TLC actively promotes creativity and reflection, encourages pedagogical and technological innovation, and creates opportunities for conversation and collaboration.

Where Should We Go For Your Winter Break?

On the possibly misguided assumption that faculty and staff have more free time to explore new territory during January, TLC has developed a survey that seeks your input on possible programming between semesters.  Do you want to learn to tell more compelling stories?  create more engaging presentations? edit that hour of video into the 4 minute segment someone might actually want to watch? bring a colleague from abroad to speak to your students without spending a dime? Please fill out this very brief survey and help TLC do the best possible job of meeting your needs.
