The WIP Presents #VesselLanding on March 30th!

This Monday, March 30th, please join The WIP for a screening of the film Vessel. The film follows a group known as Women on Waves(WoW), founded by Dr. Rebecca Gomperts, a Dutch physician who became passionate about maternal health issues while working for GreenpeaceVessel Poster in the 1990s. In 1999, Dr. Gomperts had a bold new idea: she could build a women’s health clinic on board a ship and take women from countries where there are no legal alternatives to an unwanted pregnancy, and perform abortions and provide other maternal health services using WHO sanctioned medicines and procedures in international waters. She called her movement Women on Waves.

In 2014 the documentary Vessel was released and showcased everything from WoW’s maiden voyage to Ireland and all the challenges they faced in the beginning, to the innovative loopholes around restrictive laws they discovered using new technology.

Join the WIP on Monday, March 30, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. for a special screening of this film that has been called “groundbreaking”, “riveting”, and “emotionally charged”. This event will be taking place at the Irvine Auditorium, 499 Pierce Street, Monterey and is part of a multi city film release tour. This event is free and open to the public. Donations are welcome.
