by Heidi Elisabeth Sandnes, Kilden, Norway – “Being a sensitive and attentive dad doesn’t help if you don’t spend enough time with your child. However, time isn’t enough in itself. It’s the combination of time and quality that has an impact,” says researcher Kristin Berg Nordahl.
Nordahl recently defended her PhD thesis on fathers’ interaction with their children at the University of Bergen.
Her research shows that children with fathers who had spent a lot of time at home with their child during the first year, showed less signs of uncontrolled and unwanted behaviour at the age of two. This was only the case however, if there was positive interaction between father and child.
