Shelburne Farms
Sam is the Dairy Farm Manager at Shelburne Farms and is also in charge of all livestock operations, including the sheep flock. He grew up around sheep, and after graduating from UVM with an Animal Science degree, worked with various flocks, including his own 120 Corriedale-Finn Dorset ewe flock. He came to Shelburne Farms in 1996 and now manages their 70 lambing ewe flock. The lamb from the flock is served at Shelburne Farm’s restaurant and sold both at their farm stand and wholesale. Some sheep skins are tanned and sold at the farmstand as well. Sam enjoys the role sheep play in maintaining a healthy farm ecosystem and as a source of healthy food from land that would otherwise not be productive.
