Voiceover

Since we couldn’t edit the footage, I chose a long sequence in the film. I found it interesting that this sequence was vastly different from the rest of the film. I experimented with genres by editing the audio from the film to sound like Christmas music and I recited a scene from The Grinch. I really liked the final product because it’s a strange combination of lightheartedness and eeriness, but I think it works well.

Multiscreen

This edit is one of my favorites because it turned out more thoughtful than I expected. I started off looking for similar scenes and playing with the features in Premiere. Then I realized there were quite a few similarities. When I placed these two films side by side, I could see an emphasis on the themes of loneliness and self-identity. Paired with the audio from Moonlight, this edit highlights how both characters go on a journey to explore themselves and the meaning of love.

Deformation

I enjoyed working with overlays when making my epigraph, so I wanted to give them another try. I wanted to see how many overlays I could stack on top of each other before it became too overwhelming. Since I needed to deform the audio, I thought it made sense to stack the audio tracks too. Seeing and hearing all the noise made me anxious, so I chose to work with this scene to underline Dani’s anxiety. Overall, I liked the edit because a lot is going on, but you can still understand it.

Videographic Response Essay

I watched oliSUNvia’s “our conception of love is messed up.” a couple of months back, and her ideas about hyperreality stayed with me. As I kept thinking about how the media affects how we view reality, I started to think about how her ideas fit other concepts beyond love. I had other examples that didn’t make the video because I wanted to support my point but keep it concise. This video is very “busy” because it is supposed to convey the act of surfing the web. Additionally, I wanted to depict the speed and intensity of my thoughts. This video was fun to plan and make and is not supposed to be taken too seriously.

Final Videographic Essay

For my final video essay, I knew I wanted to talk about Latin stereotypes in film and media because, growing up, I felt like there was never any meaningful representation. I decided to focus on Maddy Perez from Euphoria because she is very popular, and many young girls look up to her. I was disappointed because her struggles from season 1 didn’t seem to affect her. I found it weird that they tried to brush her problems away and make it seem like she had it all together. I wanted to talk about Maddy because the writer of this show decided not to.

I edited this video inspired by the lighting and mood of the show. I tried to make this video more formal than my response edit because this video deals with more serious topics with real consequences. I made several edits in the first part of the video when I introduced my argument, but I kept the editing minimal towards the end. I thought seeing the original clips would help viewers understand my points.

Honestly, I could have still cleaned it up and discussed some of my points further, but I am content with the finished product. I believe my stance on the subject is clear, and the visuals are simple but effective.
