Before becoming a candidate for the 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump was a real estate developer, a television figure, and business author. Trump is known as a celebrity for his appearances on television, particularly on his NBC reality show The Apprentice. He is also known for his outspoken, and often controversial, manner, and for his branding. He is the chairman and and president of The Trump Organization and is the founder of Trump Entertainment Resorts.
Early Life and Education
Trump was born on June 14, 1946 in Queens, New York. He is the son of Mary Anne and Fred Trump and is the fourth of five children. He attended Fordham University and then went to the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated from Wharton with a degree in economics.
Trump is currently married to Melania Knauss, and they have one son, Barron William Trump. This is his third marriage. He was previously married to Ivana Zelníčková from 1977-1991 and Marla Maples from 1993-1999. He had three children with Ivana and one child with Marla. In terms of religion, Trump identifies as Presbyterian.
Business/Real Estate Career
Trump’s real estate career began at Elizabeth Trump and Son, his father’s real estate company. In 1971, he gained control over this company and later renamed it the Trump Organization. He is known for his ambition and involvement in large building projects that yield great profit. Trump is both a famous and controversial developer. Trump has expanded his father’s company in an number of ways and has built several residential towers. Some of the properties the Trump Organization owns include the Trump World Tower and the Trump Tower in New York City, Trump Entertainment Resorts, Trump Winery, and seven golf courses. Trump also owns several beauty pageants, most notably Miss Universe, Miss USA, and Miss Teen USA.
Trump is a Republican. He thought about running for president in the past, most recently 2012, but never went through with it until the current presidential run. He announced his candidacy for president in 2016 on June 16, 2015.
