NGO Network Updates
January 30, 2012
In certain parts of the developing world, the lack of an NGO network has done more to inhibit positive developmental growth than encourage it. In these areas, NGOs and other developmental entities carry out projects on an individual basis without knowledge of other organizations’ projects or initiatives. There is little to no sharing of knowledge or resources and certainly the lack of a needs assessment to establish a baseline from which to evaluate future development. Working individually, NGOs have the tendency to overlap on certain areas of development while entirely neglecting others. In certain villages, there are an overwhelming number of NGOs where positive developmental impact has been minimal due to this lack of communication.
Team Peru and the Andean Alliance for Sustainable Development have taken the initial steps to coordinate the foundations for an NGO Network in the Sacred Valley of Peru. Our hope is that through this network, NGOs, local governments and local businesses will be encouraged to come together to share knowledge, resources, techniques and projects past, current and future. In the Sacred Valley, there are organizations that range in specialty, capacity, age and knowledge. Capitalizing on each other’s core competencies and learning from each other’s mistakes, Team Peru and the Andean Alliance hope to provide a benefit to all going forward.
