Helen Schiller is a rising senior at Middlebury College majoring in Global Studies and Arabic with a focus on Global Security. Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, her passion for international affairs began through experiences in high school, such as participating in policy debate, and has deepened through academic and personal experiences, including spending this past semester abroad in Amman, Jordan. There, she advanced her Arabic studies and had the opportunity to explore regional security issues firsthand. Helen is particularly interested in the intersection of Middle Eastern security and financial crime, a focus she developed through a course on Financial Crime Detection offered by Middlebury Institute professor Moyara Ruehsen. Outside the classroom, she volunteers with Atria Collective in Middlebury, Vermont, is an active member of Middlebury’s art club, MiddCAT, and enjoys hiking, listening to music, and spending time with her best friend and dog, Rufus.
