Last fall, a couple of us participated in an incredible workshop with Prof. Uno at the AAC&U conference Transforming Undergraduate STEM Education. It was fun and inspiring, but left us wanting more  — more time to directly engage with the types of activities Gordon was introducing, to learn about additional approaches, to discuss best strategies (and pit-falls!) of adopting or increasing our use of active learning approaches, and to envision how we might adopt and adapt these ideas in our Middlebury courses. The idea for this workshop was born!

We hope you will join us for the workshop, as well as the reception and dinner that evening. The dinner is our way of trying to kick-start a learning community at Middlebury that supports faculty as they work to incorporate new active learning strategies and methods in their classrooms.

We look forward to seeing you!

Molly Costanza-Robinson, Rick Bunt, Lesley-Ann Giddings, and AJ Vasiliou

p.s. in case there’s any apprehension, please know that Gordon’s engaging and accessible no matter your field — and in some ways engaging with examples from fields other than our own helped us to experience and think about the activities from a student’s perspective.

We are grateful for funding through an Ada Howe Kent grant for the workshops, with additional support from the CTLR.
