Last September, the incoming class of 2016 was welcomed with the message that they would be the first “carbon neutral” generation of graduates from Middlebury College. Many of these final projects produced by students in their Spanish language class during the academic year 2012-13 reflect the students’ interests in what it means to be part of a community with a mission for the future.
This page includes examples of student projects in a Spanish class, driven by student’s reflections that evolved from discussing the reading of Luis Sepúlveda’s novel Un viejo que leía novelas de amor. This may also be considered a case of experiential learning in language acquisition supported by communicative classroom instruction and other supplemental activities.
