Travel Registration & Insurance

All students traveling abroad on a MIIS-sponsored program must complete the following requirements.

1. Travel Registration Form (Required)

You must fill out the Middlebury Travel Registration Form before you depart. This form includes a liability waiver and automatically enrolls you in Middlebury’s Global Rescue Security evacuation plan. You will also get an invitation to use the free GRID app, which provides security alerts and a check-in feature.

  • Complete the form: go.miis.edu/travel
  • Note: Use Chrome or Firefox to complete the form. Once finished, ensure the “Acknowledgment and Assumption of Risks” box is checked.

2. Medical Insurance (Required)

You must purchase medical insurance that includes both medical evacuation and repatriation coverage. While MIIS provides security evacuation through Global Rescue, you need separate coverage for medical emergencies.

Minimum Coverage Requirements:

  • Medical Evacuation: $500,000 USD (may be higher for remote locations)
  • Repatriation: $25,000 USD
  • Standard international medical insurance: Covers you in your destination country.
  • US or home country health insurance: It is highly recommended that you keep your home country’s insurance active to cover any long-term care needs upon your return.

Potential Providers:

  • GeoBlue (The Voyager plan meets MIIS requirements)
  • iNext
  • World Nomads
  • AON

Important: In many countries, you must pay for medical services upfront and then be reimbursed by your insurance provider. Be sure to understand your policy and coverage details before you travel.
