Write-up:

Yaller Girl From The South is a folk song, with Scottish traditions, recorded in Vermont by Helen Hartness in 1942. In my Appropriation & Remix, I tried to keep elements of the original recording, such as the various textures produced by the disc recording. In a gradual transition, the song transports us to another place, where “old” and “new” converge. The upbeat quality of the original song is maintained as the claps begin, timing the sequence. For the required Contemporary Music piece, I used a traditional Scottish song that communicates with the folk song and adds some historical context to the piece. In the end, we are brought back to the textured qualities of the old recording, closing the loop started in the beginning of the composition.
