Curriculum Goals
Metacognitive
- Students will be aware of different learning strategies related to language learning through content.
- Students will create goals to monitor and record their English learning progress and will take responsibility for their learning.
Cognitive
- Students will be able to understand vocabulary and sentence structures related to the global and local environment.
- Students will understand the connections between their local environment and larger global ecosystems.
Performative
- Students will be able to use English to effectively and appropriately communicate issues related to environmental topics: natural habitats, endangered and local animals, conservation, and recycling.
- Students will be able to use English to complete service-learning activities.
- Students will create promotional eco-tourist materials for Nicaragua.
Affective
- Students will enjoy English learning through content-based, hands-on projects and games.
- Students will feel prepared and confident in discussing local and global environmental issues with English speakers.
- Students will feel motivated to encourage others to learn and investigate these environmental issues to promote greater awareness and change within the community.
